The Art of Brand Story Telling

14/10/2020 18:38:49

Your brand is more than just the products and services you offer. By telling the story of your brand, you get the opportunity to create a narrative to connect you and your audience and share with them what you stand for, your values and your company culture.

No matter the industry you’re working in, you want your clients and stakeholders to know what you are the best at what you do, and you are there to help them, no matter what their requirements might be. It takes more than just a page on a website to prove to them that you can offer solution to their problem.

So how do you start to tell the story of your brand?

Tell the story of your company in a unique way

Taking people back to the start of your journey (no matter how long ago it was) will give them an insight into your passion, ethos and spirit of your business and what you set out to achieve in the first place.

Holding your basic principles true throughout your business, even when your face adversity and striving to achieve your 'mission' and vision should be a box office hit for so many businesses especially right now.

Seeing your growth not only in sales but also in achievements with examples of how you have helped others builds a sense of trust, not just in your brand, but the people behind it.

Allwag Promotions has been helping others for over 20 years! To celebrate our 20th birthday, we launched Allwag on Wheels, our mobile roadshow which hit the streets and went around the UK on a road-trip to meet with UK based manufacturers and clients alike to share not just what we do, but how we do it sustainably making we showcase our superb supply chain. Clients loved watching the virtual tours around the factories and could often see their own orders for branded promotional products being made!

We wanted to not just show super video footage of our 20 year timeline, but also to enable visitors to experience what we do, how we do it and what they can do to tell their story! Making the extra effort to give our clients a unique experience (plus a goody bag and lots of ice-cream!) was great fun and more importantly we made sure they walked away feeling inspired, valued and motivated to make marketing fun!

Go back to basics - Explain what you do and why you do it

Capture their attention by presenting a solution to a problem they might have. Talk about how you discovered the problem yourself, and what you could do  to tackle this problem whether it makes you different from your competitors.

Of course you must highlight your unique selling points but, more importantly, the benefits you create, endorsed with real live examples, photo's, video and feedback from your clients which will draw attention to the quality of service you provide each and every time and ensures your readers or viewers know that you may not be the cheapest, but that's because you're the best.

However, in a market that is so crowded, you need to implement a marketing strategy that is injected with truthful storytelling that resonates with your audience. Your honesty about struggles, successes and everything in between is a fundamental element of your audience trusting you.

Standing out or Outstanding?

One company that is arguably one of the best when it comes to engaging and connecting with their audience, is Ben & Jerry's. For a small business started in a converted gas station (petrol station for us Brits!) in the late 70's, they've done pretty well. Not only do they produce some of the most delicious frozen treats, the way they tell their story and continue to align their philosophy with their actions is unrivalled.

From using the finest in fairtrade ingredients, fair wages and ethical fun work practices to promoting the global causes they believe in like Black Lives Matter, LGBTQ+ and Climate Justice, Ben & Jerry's have secured their future growth by ensuring that every single stake holder is an advocate for their brand. (source: www.benjerrys.co.uk)

Take a look at their "Our Anthem" video on YouTube as it gives a brief insight into poignant moments in their history, and projects their core values out to the world.

Create a unique experience by using the feel good factor!

Invest in the way you tell your story and discover the value of tapping into people's emotional reactions. 2020 has undoubtedly been a tough year for business, organisations and educational institutes alike. Facing the challenges of Covid-19, remote working and the shut-down of live events across the country has had a huge impact on the way brands can interact with their audience.

With a huge shift to digital platforms, we know that all your stakeholders including students, clients and staff are missing that tangible and tactile connection. Giving branded gifts has been proven to generate a positive and measurable return on investment. In fact, 98% of recipients said that branded merchandise increases brand awareness, and a further 55% are more favourable to a brand after receiving a gift. (Source: www.bpma.co.uk)

Back in April, on Easter Friday, we wanted to show our support and care to our dedicated team, and recognise the Anniversary of VE day so we surprised them with branded merchandise, all boxed up and hand delivered to their door! Scones were made by our Director and we dropped the finest jam from our local Tiptree Jams into the care packages.

In fact, this short story was only the start of what has now defined a transition in gift giving and being able to make people feel valued whilst they are working from home. We have spent the last 6 months creating gift boxes for our clients to show their recipients how much they care.

Telling your story in a meaningful and tangible way, creates a welcomed experience for your audience, but makes your brand stand out, ready for the next time they're in the market for your services.
