Tech Tuesday: USB C ports. What you need to know!

Happy Tech Tuesday!

This week we are looking at one of the areas of technology that has been moving rapidly over the last few years, and one which will continue to change many of our gadgets and how we use / interact with them in the future…. The USB-C plug.

What is USB-C?
USB-C is an industry-standard connector for transmitting both data and power on a single cable. It was developed by the USB Implementers' Forum (USB-IF), a group of industry leaders within the consumer electronics community, such as Apple, Intel, Dell, and Belkin.

At first glance, it looks similar to a micro-USB connector, but it is more oval in shape and slightly thicker to accommodate its best feature: flippability (unlike its USB predecessors, it's also flippable—so you don't need to try three times to plug it in).

USB Type-C ports are now found on all manner of devices, from simple external hard drives to high-end laptops and the latest smartphones. While every USB-C port looks the same, they don’t all offer the same capabilities.

With so many Macs and Windows laptops now featuring the interface, and with many of the world's most recognized manufacturers are supporting this new technology, it's clear that the USB Type-C connector is here to stay.

With this much support from tech giants, USB-C is likely to gradually replace previous USB types, including USB-A, USB-B and USB Micro-B.

As this smaller USB-C port becomes more common in electronics, it is likely that devices will be thinner and lighter than ever before, as well as our fastest charging speeds yet!

Chargers that utilise this technology also allow for easier “working from home” networking / data transfer and even allow for switching between USB-C and older USB-A devices, which means you are ‘future-proofed’ and have the correct chargers for when these changes are made to every device.

We have some great options for printed and engraved charging cables which include USB-C as shown throughout this blog. We have plenty more USB-C options that are not featured here! You can get on trend and ensure your brand is in front of your clients daily…
